The Importance of Giving

ATGC 2013 Staff Mosaic(1)

I’m sure by now you’ve realized that this is another post from another organization asking you for a financial donation to help people in need.  And you know what?  You are absolutely right.  That is exactly what this is.  If you’d rather skip reading further about who we are and whom we serve, I understand.  By simply sending your gift right now of $25, $50, $100 or $250, you will help my staff continue to deliver those services at no cost to our clients.

Before you stop reading, let me tell you about the people I’m asking you to help.  Did you know that more than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are infected with HIV/AIDS; over 17,000 live in Ohio and nearly 4,500 in Cuyahoga County? 18% of those infected do not know they are HIV positive. Over 75% live below federal poverty levels; only 4% earn +$20,000. Few have cars, jobs, or supportive family systems.  67% lack permanent, stable housing; and 13% are homeless or chronically homeless.

My staff is made up of some of the most passionate and loyal people you’ll ever come across.  Every day, 60% of my staff head east on the Shoreway (or on Route 90) to cross the Cuyahoga River to get to the office. 46% of them have been making this drive for more than 10 years.  80% have graduated from college and/or gone on to complete graduate level studies. 70% of us are non-smokers, but the majority of us admit our worst habit is procrastination.  More of us drink coffee than tea, prefer cake to pie, and we’re evenly split when it comes to being romantically attached.

Each department offers specialized services: case management, education, prevention, housing, advocacy and research.  However, we all work together (and have for 30 years as Ohio’s oldest AIDS Service Organization) as the staff of the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland.  Because we know that it takes a village, and this is our village.  Your gift will make an enormous difference to that village: our staff and our clients.

Please take a moment to make your gift using the enclosed reply card – or call us at 216-621-0766.  You can ask for Rebecca Murray-Strong and she will be more than happy to help you with your contribution.  You can always contact me at any time, of course.  Should you wish to donate online, please click HERE.

Thank you, on behalf of everyone here at the AIDS Taskforce.

Tracy Jones, MNO

Chief Executive Officer
