A Celebration of Art to Raise Money for the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland
Cleveland, OH – Nearly 1,000 art lovers will gather in the spectacular Ames Family Atrium at the Cleveland Museum of Art on Saturday, April 20th for ArtCares 2013, the annual auction and party to benefit the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland. ArtCares 2013 is being presented through the generosity of AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Toby Devan Lewis with support from Consolidated Graphics Group.
This year, the AIDS Taskforce will present their ArtCares Icon award to the Cleveland Institute of Art. In 2003, The Cleveland Institute of Art was a founding partner in establishing ArtCares. Since its inception in 2003, CIA and MOCA in partnership with the AIDS Taskforce has raised tens of thousands of dollars for people living with, effected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS. Beyond this, CIA continues a true commitment to diversity and to presenting art that is either by artists in the HIV/AIDS and LGBT communities or addresses the important issues facing those communities – as well many other social issues that concern our clients. Further, the Institute’s leadership in the arts community, and in Cleveland overall, has been simply astounding. We are proud to honor CIA as the ArtCares Icon for 2013. We hope you will be a part of this evening to celebrate the Institute’s leadership in the community.
The centerpiece of ArtCares remains the auction of art generously donated by professional artists living in, or with connections to, Northeast Ohio. This year will again feature a special exhibition of specially created work curated by local artist and curator, Kristin Rogers. A new twist on the ‘live’ auction will feature the artists themselves presenting their work.
A silent auction will feature work donated by local artists and by students of the Cleveland Institute of Art, who will participate in a competition sponsored by Stewart & Donna Kohl for $1,000 in prizes for best works.
This year’s party features entertainment by funk and soul DJ’s Darrick Grant (WCSB Eclectic Soul) and Charles McGaw (WRUW On the One).
ArtCares is the signature fund-raiser for the AIDS Taskforce, which serves individuals and families infected, affected and at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Proceeds help provide services such as counseling and case management, educational programs for adults and youth at risk, housing, public policy and advocacy and a food pantry that provides much-needed help for a community in which illness often coincides with poverty.
The event begins at 7:00 p.m., tickets are $100 per person. Host Committee sponsorship and Corporate Partnerships are available. Tickets and more information are available by calling the taskforce at 216-621-0766, extension 245, or by visiting: http://bit.ly/ArtCares2013
